Partisanship in Holder's DOJ Gets Bolder

Jul 9, 2012Word on the Street

Fox News yesterday reported a letter submitted by Congressman Lamar Smith (R-TX) to US Attorney General Eric Holder exposing the Justice Department's use of voter registration data developed by a company dedicated to increasing turnout for "progressive" candidates and causes. The DOJ intends to use the information as ancillary evidence against the State of Texas' upcoming attempt to over-ride the March decision blocking voter ID legislation.

Catalist, the data source in question, proudly promotes 95 progressive interest groups (some vehemently opposed to voter ID measures) and 55 Democratic politicians on its own website.

Catalist is designed to maximize progressive turnout on Election Day, not to assist in the Justice Department's duty to uphold civil rights laws for all.
